Our most pressing need now is to raise funds for medication at the clinic. Patients will pay only a nominal amount for treatment but rolling funds are need for treatment drugs.
We are continually looking for new sponsors to support the children of Wellingara. For £17.50 a month, payable monthly, quarterly or annually. For approximately 60p per day, you could make a huge difference in the life of a child in the Gambia. Click here to sponsor a child.
The CIS Sponsorship Cordinator prioritises the waiting list of children on the basis of need and the money is used to buy food, clothing and school fees. Click here to find out how the money is spent
Of that £17.50 that is donated £12.50 will go directly to the family and £5 will go to support the Wellingara Nursery school, helping to pay for the salaries of the teachers.
Malaria is the greatest threat to the lives of children in the Gambia and responsible for the dealt of 1 in 5 children. The cheapest, safest, most environmentally friendly way and effective way to protect against mosquito bites and being infected is the use of mosquito bed-nets. Many families cannot afford to buy these nets coupled with other household and family costs, so we are running a campaign to help those families by raising funds to buy nets.
Each double net costs £5.50. As chemically dipped nets afford greater protection than non-dipped ones, regular net dipping sessions are held at the clinic.
Thanks to the generosity of some of our supporters many nets have now been handed out to the children but more are still needed for those families without.
We are happy to receive funds for other requirements as well. If there is something specific that you would like to donate, please let us know and we can arrange it. For example, a generous sponsor has given our local football team a strip of their own! Any gifts are also gratefully received.
